The boat on the near side ran it's last race in this picture. After crossing the finish line it crashed. I didn't see the crash and didn't hear what actually caused it, but the boat was destroyed and sank. |
| This is the safety and recovery crew responding to scene. I have to give the safety crew credit they were always on their toes and ready to go. They proved it by quick response and professional way they handled the emergency. |  |

Here they are recovering the motor from the bottom of the river. Once they had it secured to the barge, it was transported to the "Out Ramp" and loaded onto a trailer. The rest of the boat was marked with a buoy for retrieval after the races. |
| The rescue team is bringing the pilot back with his capsule.
He was given a mandatory check up by the ambulance EMT personnel and
released as OK. He was down talking to Roger (the announcer)
shortly after being released. What a testimonial to the safety requirements. |
